off shoulder

Well dang, long time no see guys. Sorry to go all radio silence on ya, but sometimes a girl just needs a break. Not the kind of break where you take a lazy day to stay in bed and watch Gossip Girl with a container of coconut ice cream (although I have been doing that), but the kind where you regroup and just generally reassess what in the actual heck is going on in your life. drinking

The last time I sat down and had a drink (a glass of rosé with Kim!) was when I visited NYC back in September, 6 months ago. I didn’t have an issue with alcohol abuse, but I felt like taking a break was right for me at the time. Somehow, I stubbornly made it this long without cracking, ha! I don’t think I’ll stop drinking forever, but taking a 6 month break after drinking pretty regularly since the age of maybe 18 or 19 (sorry mom!) was definitely eye opening. I’ve learned a few things in this time and figured I might as well recap and share with y’all. View Post

While blogging I’ve found that I sometimes like to go the extra step where necessary and edit my photos to include my own handwriting. You may have noticed it in the past on my DIY and recipe posts especially, but if not, you can see what I’m talking about here, here, and here! Lately, I’ve had people complimenting the “font” I use, so I figured why not put a post together to show y’all, it’s not a font! Just a fun little extra step I like to take to make my stuff more polished.

Let me preface by saying there’s probably an easier way to do this, but here’s how I get my writing on pictures. For those of you who don’t have a tablet but still want to give your pictures something more, this is for you!!

recapFebruary was definitely a weird month. It seemed to feel like it dragged on, but somehow also managed to fly by. I felt like I was constantly doing something, but don’t really know that I have too much to show for it. I guess that means I didn’t really make moves on the “busy-ness” I mentioned in last month’s recap post (oops)! That said, let’s take a look at some of the things I did do in February! View Post

Sorry for my posts being a little slow around here lately! I know I shared a post with tips for dealing with the blues, but I’ve definitely been struggling still (like everyone around me it seems?!), and I’ve found that the only way for me to truly work through the rough stuff is to take a breather. It’s definitely easier to move forward after sitting and getting to know your emotions, ya know? That way you’re working with yourself, instead of struggling against the tide.

At any rate, to get myself and you outta this funk, I wanted to share a post with 5 things I’m loving lately!

gluten free pancakes

Okay y’all, I’m the first to admit living that gluten-free life is hard. As someone who just gets bloaty stomach aches when they eat gluten, it’s a struggle to stay away from something that tastes good (aka bread). To make my life easier/less painful, I’ve been trying to throw myself into finding new recipes for old faves, in hopes that eventually I’ll just know how to cook everything in a gluten-free version. It’ll probably be a long crawl, but the only way to move is forward, right??

I decided to keep it simple with breakfast and make some gluten free pancakes. There’s been a “healthy version” of pancakes going around in the blogging scene for a while now that basically consists of combining mashed banana with egg whites and cooking them. While I don’t think they’re awful if you want something quick, I wanted to make something a bit more substantial. Blending the rolled oats (I used these gluten free ones*, but you can use regular oats if your gut allows it) as well as the greek yogurt made the pancakes feel dense, and the banana and egg definitely helped hold everything together! Definitely feels like more of a meal than egg whites and bananas do! Plus, the yogurt adds an extra punch of protein; all around a healthy win I’d say. View Post

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I’ve been seeing a lot of blogs putting out their posts on ways you can show love for the important people in your life, like your significant other, your mom, your boss, or even your dog. That said, it seems as though the most important person has been forgotten: yourself! We as a society seem to have developed a mindset that it’s inherently narcissistic or selfish to consider ourselves as more than an after-thought, when hellooo, it should just be second nature to show some love on the reg.

I’ve mentioned it before here, but it’s really so important to treat yourself right and show appreciation for yourself, even in little ways. Not only can it make a physical difference, but taking time out of your day to put yourself first is totally a mood booster! I know it can be easier said than done, especially if you’re not used to making yourself a priority, so try starting small. Here’s 3 of my favorite ways to show myself a little love: View Post

Two valentine's looks, perfect for celebrating with a date night or with your ladies!

I decided to switch it up a little this month and asked my friend Bianca, owner of Toile, to help me pick some outfits for you guys to wear on Valentine’s Day! Her shop is loaded with some rad local talent (including her own pieces!) so this was fun to put together. We’ve got two outfits for you to choose from, so that whether you’re heading out to a Valentine’s date or planning to celebrate Galentine’s style (which, for those of you who don’t watch Parks and Rec, is for ladies to celebrate with their lady friends), you’re totally covered.
