With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I’ve been seeing a lot of blogs putting out their posts on ways you can show love for the important people in your life, like your significant other, your mom, your boss, or even your dog. That said, it seems as though the most important person has been forgotten: yourself! We as a society seem to have developed a mindset that it’s inherently narcissistic or selfish to consider ourselves as more than an after-thought, when hellooo, it should just be second nature to show some love on the reg.
I’ve mentioned it before here, but it’s really so important to treat yourself right and show appreciation for yourself, even in little ways. Not only can it make a physical difference, but taking time out of your day to put yourself first is totally a mood booster! I know it can be easier said than done, especially if you’re not used to making yourself a priority, so try starting small. Here’s 3 of my favorite ways to show myself a little love:
3 LITTLE WAYS TO TREAT YOURSELF
1. MAKE SOLO TIME: I’m one of those people that needs to take a mental breather every once in a while. Being around people constantly makes me feel drained, so I like to take “me” days every once in a while and just do a whole lot of nothing, by myself. Actually, sometimes I’ll go out and explore to find places like this or this on my own, which usually feel pretty refreshed.
2. PAMPER YOURSELF: I love to take an extra 15 minutes every once in a while to just throw something more into my usual beauty routine. Something about doing a face mask, painting my toes, or adding a deep conditioner to my hair can get me feeling like I’m a dang princess. It’s nothing crazy, but those little extra steps make a huge difference in how I’m feeling.
3. BUY SOME FLOWERS: It’s no secret that I’m a huge plant person, but I think flowers are definitely a little extra special. What a pop of color from a fresh tulip or daisy bouquet can do for both a room and your mood is something else. I like separating bouquets and chopping the flowers short to distribute throughout my apartment into little mason jars, and sometimes leave ’em hanging upside down to dry on walls for a romantic touch.
