I’ve had this post in my queue for a minute now, because I noticed a handful of bloggers writing similar ones, and figured I should shelf it. But ya know what? If something is “trending”, there tends to be a reason. In my opinion, we’re hearing about the “Law of Attraction” from all angles because: it works.
But what exactly is the Law of Attraction?
I talk a little bit about the idea behind it here, but essentially by focusing on the positive or negative thoughts a person is having, they can manifest into real life experiences. Basically: your thoughts become your reality. If you’re repeating something to yourself, that phrase will create imagery in your mind, which will affect you subconsciously, in turn influencing your behavior, then actions, and overall habits. Like energy attracts like energy.
Although I was already utilizing affirmations in my daily life, it’s only recently that I’ve fully started to employ the Law of Attraction. It’s kind of amazing when you approach life with a positive mindset, just how much starts to align (and in a short time)!
[clickToTweet tweet=”If your thoughts become reality, what are you thinking?” quote=”If your thoughts become reality, what are you thinking?”]Manifest? Affirmations? Law of Attraction?? What am I even saying?
• AFFIRMATIONS: Sentences aimed to affect the mind by inspiring, motivating, and energizing through repetition.
• MANIFESTATION: The ability to create what you desire. Essentially, your thoughts becoming tangible things.
• LAW OF ATTRACTION: The actual principles you can utilize to “manifest” or obtain your desires.
Okay at this point, I bet y’all are wondering how exactly you can use this to your benefit. To help you start manifesting more positive changes into your life, I’ve put together 7 tips to make the Law of Attraction work for you!
LAW OF ATTRACTION:
1. ACCEPT THAT YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE.
First and foremost, you need to take responsibility and ownership of your life. It’s really easy to hope that some higher power is going to cruise control you along, and pretend like everything is out of your hands, but that’s not true. The things that happen in your life are largely a result of the thoughts you think, and the actions that you take following those thoughts. When you start to align your mindset with that notion, that you’re in control, it’ll start to open all the doors.
2. RID YOUR LIFE OF NEGATIVITY.
Have you ever been so mad with someone that in the moment all you can think is “how dare they”, “I hate them”, while angrily plotting their demise (and going off) on facebook and twitter? Then hours later after you’ve cooled down and reassessed, you realize oops, maybe what they did wasn’t so awful (and let’s be real, you probably deserved it)?
Negativity acts like blinders, narrowing your focus and giving you tunnel vision to everything around you. If being angry gives you that sort of cropped view, imagine how all negative thoughts (i.e. fear, blame, anger, embarrassment, comparison) alter your focus so you’re not getting the full picture. Cut out anything that’s not helping you move in a positive direction.
3. KNOW WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING TO ACHIEVE.
You don’t need to suffocate yourself with specifics, but if you’re trying to achieve a goal, it’s important to have at least a general idea in mind of what you’re looking for. Instead of setting out like “I want a job as a lawyer’s assistant”, just focus on “I want a better job”. Think of it like travel: yea your itinerary might be a bit loose, but you still booked a flight to Spain. Give yourself a bit of direction, or at least circle a general area on the map.
4. ASK THE UNIVERSE.
Start visualizing what exactly you want; put yourself into the space that you hope to see yourself in. Imagine yourself walking into that job, next to the partner you hope to find, or stepping off that plane. Let yourself picture this wholly, feeling the emotions of your requests being answered and goals being achieved.
5. ACT LIKE YOU’VE ALREADY ACHIEVED IT.
Faking it till I’ve made it is one of my favorite things to do when I’m setting out for a goal. Have you ever heard the phrase “dress for the job you want”? Well that applies here. Dress yourself smarter like you’re already making that good money, hold yourself higher and with more confidence, and start treating yourself like the winner you know you are. Frankly, everything else will start following suit.
6. BE OPEN TO THE SIGNS OF THE UNIVERSE.
The only way to know if what you’re seeking is coming to fruition is to keep your eyes open to all the signs that are being handed to you. The universe will start aligning you with the right people, the right places, and the right opportunities if you let it. You just have to keep yourself open and willing to greet those people and moments when they arrive in front of you!
Some of the biggest indicators that you’re on the right path are:
- repeated numbers, like 11:11 on the clock
- hearing a song that relates to your desire
- feeling more content with your direction
- meeting people that can actually push you along
- synchronicity, or repeated coincidental occurrences
7. BE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT IS.
Gratitude is one of the most important parts of the Law of Attraction, because a person cannot truly gain more until they first learn to appreciate what’s in front of them. This can be kinda hard, because we’re culturally conditioned to focus more on the things we do not have (and want) than what we do.
You can take baby steps to acknowledge the good in your life by listing out 5 things you’re thankful for when you wake up, before you go to bed, or stopping to accept positivity as it crosses your path on the daily. Make sure you take time to be grateful for yourself and your accomplishments as well!

My husband and I were just thinking about this the other day – and how so much that we have worked for, asked for and thoughtfully planned for has come to fruition! Plus, as a communication theory person I love the law of attraction being on trend right now 😉 Fun to geek out over, haha!

I agree that you attract what you put in the atmosphere. I do my best to be positive or at least only to talk about negative stuff to a few people so that it’s not spread everywhere.

I’m trying my best to really cut gossip out completely! seems to do more harm than good x
LOVE this post. I recently started using the Law of Attraction a couple of months ago and more specifically to grow my blog. I can vouch that YES, it works. It also helped me get a big job promotion, my new MacBook, and grow my blog audience.
I think more people are becoming more open to this technique. It still may seem a little “woo woo” but I try to explain it to people in a way that comes across as practical and real. I mean, what do you have to lose??

Thank you for spreading your positivity through your words! I just found your blog on Pinterest tonight. I’ve always been a positive person. I just know I can be more. I recently turned 50, and now I’ve been working on “me”. I’ve started running (5k, 8k, 10k), eating healthy and went back to school. With all of that, I re-wrote my resume last weekend and I’m going to switch careers after 34 years!
Your tips for using the law of positivity just “sealed the deal” that I •can• do this! I can do anything I put my mind to!
Keep feeding your soul and spreading your words. Good people are rewarded in many ways, Kate. You’ll see those benefits!
Thanks again!
