outfit: blue cotton and the snowball

You ever have one of those string of days where you feel like you’re unstoppable as all hell, and life just has to prove you wrong? Where you can’t find a shoe so you tear your apartment apart, only to experience the I-have-nothing-to-wear snowball, that turns into it-doesn’t-matter-nothing-looks-good-on-me, and suddenly you get to the oh-god-why-did-I-eat-that-ice-cream??? If you’re a girl reading this I know damn well you’ve experienced that.

That little melt-down can mess me up for an entire day, and I didn’t want to let my entire Labor Day go to waste (just a decent chunk of it), so I decided to throw on one of my favorite recent purchases and escape the house. There’s just something about this crisp cotton dress that makes me feel okay, despite not wearing makeup or putting any effort in at all. Maybe buttoning all those buttons brings this false sense of being productive (like how you feel when you buy office supplies, you know)?

Also can we just take a second to acknowledge how A+ John is getting at taking pictures?! Trying to teach someone close to me how to see things from an artistic point of view has really shown me just how different everyone’s brains work. I completely take for granted how much of a difference making art for most of my life has shaped my eye! The devil really is in the details guys, I swear.

PS. If you haven’t taken it yet, I’d love to hear your feedback on what you want to see more of featured on here! So go take the poll! So far DIY seems to be really popular, and I’m definitely keeping that in mind.

Yes I completely agree with you on buttoning the buttons! Button-downs are my favourite for feeling a bit more put together.

It’s such a simple trick to make you feel like you’ve got yourself together, even just a little bit!

I love the dress! I also relate so much to having to teach someone to take pictures. My boyfriend is learning and it is frustrating sometimes but I am so grateful to have him! Your blog is lovely! 🙂

The first paragraph is priceless darling! I hate those days to the core! My husband is also the one taking all my pictures and I can definitely see his photography skills have evolved so much! I’m really blown away by how he see things now and how he is dedicated to take the best photos lol

I can’t wait to see how my boyfriend’s eye changes while taking pictures. :)) I gave him an older camera to practice with so I’m sure I’ll see a difference!

Wow, I love that dress and I see what you mean about it being the kind of staple item in your closet that requires no other effort to make you feel better about yourself! I love that bag too!

It’s such a simple dress, but has just enough structure to make you look put together! 🙂

“Maybe buttoning all those buttons brings this false sense of being productive (like how you feel when you buy office supplies, you know)?” — I can relate SO much to this, lol – those small moments of “hell yea, I can wash this plate” can empower you even when you’re having a shit day.
