A little over 3 weeks ago I took a quick trip to South Beach, Miami, with my friend Rachel (who’s also my boyfriend’s sister). At something crazy like $115 round trip through Frontier it was a no brainer when we booked the trip Christmas day. Despite the 7:30 am flight time and arriving likely looking strung out because it’s impossible to sleep in an aisle seat (seriously, pay the extra $20 to choose your seat), it was nice to get away!
The first day was beautiful, with 80 degree weather and peach bellinis. Honestly, we were so excited to enjoy the nice weather, we ended up on the beach in our underwear. When in South Beach, right?
We were so tired the first day after it taking forever to check into our airbnb and our flight that we ended up spending the night in watching Netflix. But hey, a vacation is a vacation right?
The days kind of run together, but here’s some highlights from the trip!
If you ever find yourself in South Beach, please do yourself a favor and stop at La Sandwicherie. I’m not a huge sandwich person but after we stopped there the second day of our trip, I had to go back at least once a day for the rest of the trip. Maybe twice. …not kidding. If you’re not a sandwich person, you should at least treat yourself to one of their smoothies. The “Bora Bora”, made with mango, banana, pineapple, and orange, was my favorite.
Are the shapes and colors of this city not to die for? Look at that blue!
This place was phenomenal. I had been browsing through Yelp to see what local restaurants were worth checking out and stumbled upon Under The Mango Tree. It was close enough to our room that we decided to make the trek (and I’m glad we did, because we stopped back a second time). The cafe offered a fresh assortment of organic smoothies, acai bowls, juices, and sandwiches, and had the most welcoming decor. The plants hanging everywhere definitely lent a very welcoming feel, and if I lived in Miami I’d likely be here multiple times a week.
The chocolate bowl I got. “Raw acai blended with raw organic cacao and banana, topped with banana, coconut shavings, local miami honey, raw organic cacao nibs, and cinnamon.” It was to die for, I swear.
Just a heads up, if you’re ever tempted to do a ginger shot, don’t (unless you like feeling your insides burn, in which case, go for it). I’d rather just drink hot sauce, though.
I definitely think next time I visit South Beach I’ll give myself a full week to enjoy the area, and also go a little later into the year. Not that I didn’t enjoy the warmer weather, I think I’d like to wear a swimsuit every day next time. Or at least have the opportunity to.
Have you been to Miami? What’d you think?
Have you used Frontier to fly anywhere?
